Hi! I’m a current freshman who is interested in going into the dental medicine. Does anyone have any recommendations for what classes I should be taking in high school and other general advice I should keep in mind? I already plan on taking AP Calc BC, AP Physics, and AP Chem. What other things should I plan to accomplish by senior year? What type of major should I be thinking about? Thank you!
since you're going to at some point go into a med school, try to keep your gpa at 3.5 or higher. if you can't do that just do what you can. If you school offers enough classes, I recommend 1-2 ap classes a year. but if you fail AP classes don't do them. if your school offers them medical-based classes are a good idea even if they don't relate to or only partly relate to dentistry because it shows interest in the field. And if your school has it HOSA might be a good idea for you, and later in school you can try shadowing local dentists. and schools also like to see Extracurriculars so do those, and have fun. schools in the end want someone unique, not a school of cookie cutter people
CollegeVine has a blog post with advice on what classes you should take and other things you should look into to pursue a dental track. I highly recommend reading through it. I also think that you should add AP Bio to your class list if you have not already. Hope this helps!
