I plan to pursue a career as a cartoon scriptwriter and would like to know what major would be best for me to take up. I plan to minor/double major in English as well.
Alongside this I would like to know of any recommended schools for these types of degrees (preferably ones with achievable acceptance rates for myself).
Thank you.
I would recommend studying two main fields in college - English or creative writing, which is the backbone of scriptwriting, and a field that nurtures your creativity. If your interest lies in political cartoons, majoring in history or political science could give you inspiration. If you are looking to write scripts for cartoons of all types, a major or minor in communication or a field of art would be beneficial.
This list of all US colleges with a creative writing major will serve you well. You can use CollegeVine's chancing engine to approximate your odds of admission to all of these schools. Hope this helps!
If you want to pursue a career as a cartoon scriptwriter, than maybe you should major in art? Maybe creative writing, animations, graphic designs. You can even do linguistics, mass communication, or journalism.
You could go to Maryland Institute College of Art, Arizona State University, University of Iowa, etc.
To keep this community safe and supportive:
try art, screenwriting, creative writing, film studies, etc. and look for colleges that have the best programs for cartoon scriptwriters
