I am a current high school sophomore and I'm going into this summer without any plans and I'm feeling disappointed that I have started so late to look for programs. Should I try to start on something like an internship (not that I would know where to look for one) or should I stick with a basic job until I figure out what I can do for my summer after junior year? I am looking for any and all advice on essentially what to do with my summer without it feeling like a waste. Thanks!!
P.S. I know research is a good idea, and I am willing to do it as a last resort (either this summer or my junior summer) but I really do not want to do any research if possible 😅
Hi, thank you for asking your question! Summer is a great time to pursue a passion project, internship or job, and ideally, that time will be spent in an area that you plan on applying into for college. Selective colleges want students who are engaged in the fields that they are most interested in inside and outside of the classroom. To get an idea how important summer is for college admissions, check out these sample blog posts.
You may be late to the game in terms of summer programs or research opportunities but that's no big deal. You can start your search for opportunities next summer in a few months. Depending on your major of interest, it would help to pursue an activity in that field of this summer.
I think a lot of programs are still taking applications as well, but internships are always a really good opportunity!!!! Im not really an expert on this stuff but as a sophomore you still have a lot of time, but it’s always helpful to have cool experiences early on. Is there a specific field you want to go into?

I’m not entirely sure, possibly Journalism but nothing is set in stone yet. I’ll definitely keep looking! :)
