Hi everyone!
So I am a junior in the IB Program, and due to the program's two year courses, I am unable to fit physics into my schedule (Applying as business/econ major; top 3 schools are Dartmouth (27%), UPenn (24%), and Duke (21%).)
I have the opportunity to also take AP Physics 1 online through Virtual Virginia during the school year, but it would be graded and a big commitment in addition to my senior year schedule. Would it be advantageous to take AP Physics 1 online during the school year if I can't fit it in with my normal schedule? Thanks!
I think that if you feel as though you can handle the load and you are really good at Physics you should take it, but If you aren't good at physics or it is not that important to you focus your time on what you are currently doing and make it better
Hey!!!! I’m in a super similar position to you actually. I’m also in the IB diploma and I couldn’t take 2 years of IB physics, so I took Bio SL instead, and I’m trying to take AP phys next year.
I think it would be advantageous to take AP physics, but that sounds like a big commitment since it’s an online class. Does your school offer its own AP physics class? I’m not sure how the IB stuff works in your school, but in my school I had to beg the science chairperson to let me take AP physics senior year with no intro prerequisite. But it is possible (if your school offers it). Can I ask what science you took for IB? :) !!
I would advise against taking AP Physics 1 because it would be a big commitment that would not drastically help your application. Since you are applying as a business/econ major, you could take other AP or IB STEM classes that are easier and more relevant to your academic spike - AP Statistics, AP Micro, or AP Macro are good options if you have not taken them already. Hope this helps!
