During first semester of this school year, I ended with a bad grade in math and I'm currently trying to boost my math grade for second semester, but it's pretty hard. I'm really worried this will heavily decrease my chances of getting into my all time dream school. I am hoping to "make up" for it by keeping my grade as high as I can next year, but I'm not sure if that will "make up" for the lower grades I got in math this year. Is there anything I can do to try and "make up" for my low math grade?
In general, one bad grade will not greatly impact your average GPA throughout high school. As long as you can demonstrate an upward trend in your grades throughout high school, you will be perfectly fine.
If you are truly worried about having a low GPA, you can become a more attractive college applicant by improving in other areas. Colleges love to see well-rounded individuals. This includes varsity sports, hobbies, good testing scores, other accomplishments outside of school, etc.
Let me know if this helps, and good luck!
What grade are you in? If this is your freshman year than you will have plenty of time to get better grades in the future. Ask your teacher if there's any extra credit or make up work you can do. If not, bring your absolute A-game next year. If I was a college I would be pretty impressed by your determination to not only do better but to surpass yourself from last year, it would show you're willing to grow as a person and a student. Good Luck, hope this helps!
I also had a little trouble in my math class this year. Something I found really helpful to understand what I was doing and boost my grades was to review for ten minutes a day. After each school day, I would go home and review my math notes for 10 minutes every day. I'll be honest, when I started doing it I had little faith that it would actually work, but my understanding of math and my grades both went up.
Obviously everyone is different, but I thought I would share what I did.:)
Ask your teacher if there is any way to retake those bad grades or ask to do extra credit.
