Hello!
I was wondering how colleges look at IB classes vs. regular classes. Is a B in an IB class equivalent to an A in a regular class? Or how do colleges feel if you have a B, but it's in an IB level class rather than in a regular level class?
IB classes count the same as AP classes and Honors classes do. Like you said, a B in an IB class is equivalent to an A in a regular class. So if you're calculating your weighted gpa, a B in an IB class would count as a 4.0 instead of a 3.0. Hopes this clears things up.
IB classes are seen as equivalent in rigor to AP classes, so they are looked on more favorably by colleges than honors or standard classes. A B in an IB class is equivalent to an A in a regular class in terms of weighted GPA. It is important to note that a standard class and IB class will both give you a 3.0/4.0 unweighted GPA.
In any case, having IB classes on your transcript will make you more competitive. Taking as many as IBs possible communicates something more indirect than a letter grade - it shows that you are intellectually curious and you are a motivated learner. Hope this helps!
