Ofc I know that it matters, but I am a junior in highschool and worried my gpa is low, does it really matter?
Yes, it matters a lot.
Due to COVID19 and other various reasons, many schools have become test-optional and plan to stay that way. Despite many top-end universities looking for well-rounded individuals, they may not even review your profile if your GPA is too low.
Unfortunately, since it is your junior year, drastically increasing your GPA is extremely difficult. Instead, I would work on improving other aspects of your application such as test scores or extracurriculars.

GPA, both your unweighted and weighted GPA remain one of the few main constants in the college admissions process. When 90% of colleges are test optional and some are test blind, then college admissions officers have to put more weight on your GPA and course rigor to determine if you would be good fit at their college. When you don't have good grades, it's import to have other attributes that can help you make the case you deserve a chance. One thing would be getting really high SAT or ACT test scores. Or having some unique skills as varsity athlete or excellent musician or artist.
It really matters a lot.
It definitely matters. Colleges look for higher GPAs and for students that stand out.
