Freshman and Sophomore Year GPAs
Answered

My freshman year and first semester Sophomore year GPAs have been okay, but not at the level that I want them to be at to get into the colleges that I want to go to. For the second half of Sophomore year I've been "bustin' my butt" about grades and have worked myself up from a 3.5-3.6 to a 3.92 according to my last report card, and my grades are still rising now (hoping for a 4.0 unweighted)

I know that if I continue to study and work as hard as I'm doing now, I can get a 4.0 (unweighted) junior year and first semester of senior year. Are my freshman and sophomore year grades strong enough to overshadow my good junior and senior year grades, or do colleges really only look at junior year?

Your freshman and sophomore year grades are good enough to not weigh you down in the college admissions process. While it would be concerning to colleges if you started with a 2.5 GPA, you started off high school achieving an average GPA and have been steadily rising since. They will find the upward trend in your GPA impressive, and the fact that it continued for your junior year will give them confidence that you would perform well in college. Your GPA as it stands is competitive for top schools, and will be so long as there are no dips senior year. Hope this helps!

Hello,

Well when colleges look at grades they look at your GPA as a whole.

So my advice is to stay strong as you can throughout your high school years, and just focus on getting those good grades.

I hope this answers your question, if not then sorry. Have a wonderful day!
