Hello.
As of writing this, I am a 15 y/o high school student majoring in Historic Preservation. Ideally, I'll be able to attend a small grouping of schools (URI, Simmons Uni, Brown Uni) to attain a PhD in History in tandem with a bachelor's or master's in Archival Science. Due to budgetary constrictions, said goal will be rather difficult to achieve. In the past, I have done my fair share of community service and extracurriculars, as well as a volunteer position at my local library; though with summer steadily approaching, the search continues. Seeing as I am under the age of 16, my options are rather limited. Now, I'm aware that this is a rather narrow profile but it doesn't hurt to try! Please note that location-wise, I am confined to the New England area (Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut).
Note: I happen to be relatively fluent in French, if that helps anything.
Historic preservation sounds like a fascinating major and career! I suggest joining a virtual archivist group. One of which is through the National Archives. On their website you can become a citizen archivist. Most of the things they need help with are basic transcription and tagging of historic documents, many of which are handwritten. I don't believe you can use this for volunteer hours, since the National Archives will not/cannot sign volunteer papers for you, but you could definitely use it as an extracurricular, and keep track of your hours yourself.

FIAF - French Institute Alliance Française. [Virtual person, Cost: 3 hours per week,11 weeks: $649, ] It offers french lessons from k-12 to adults. It have small group lessons as well as private lessons. The area it covers is, writing, listening, reading, culture, and more. It's also a non-profit which means they have much lower tuition than others. Since you have excluded many pre-college programs above, I recommend FIAF (I asked my french teacher) since it does offer virtual and in-person options at an acceptable price. Even if you weren't looking for this type of lessons, I strongly suggest you share it with your friends/families/classmates and check it out. FiAF Link: https://fiaf.org/
