Hi, I'm from Grenada a small country in the Caribbean. I'm in secondary school form3(sophomore) about to go in form 4(junior) this September and I'll be graduating when I'm in form 5(senior) but even though I'm bit far from finishing secondary school lately I've been thinking about college and I've decided I wanted to attend in the U.S. but I have no clue where to start. My dream school have always been NYU and I wanted Kent state and Colorado State as my back up,can someone help me and give me some ideas on how to do this?
Hi @Jamia_courtney!
Can I get some more specific info as to what you're having trouble with? Are you just looking for advice on applying international, or do you have other concerns (such as cost and living in the US)?
This blog would be a good place to start: https://blog.collegevine.com/the-american-college-admissions-process-made-easy-a-guide-for-international-students/
In short, the main things you'd need to worry about as an international student would be getting your English language certification (TOEFL), taking standardized tests (ACT and/or SAT), and having some US-standard classes like IB to make the conversion process easier. You'll also have a more difficult time getting funding, since international students don't qualify for US federal grants (which makes up a lot of financial aid). You'd instead have to get scholarships or find some other funding source.
That all said, studying in the US can be a great opportunity and over a million international students do it each year. Let me know if you have any questions, and good luck!
