Admissions Advice

Suggestions on extracurriculars regarding East Asia studies.
Answered

Hello, I'm currently in the 10th grade homeschooled in American School. (Right now I live in Europe). I'm planning to apply to colleges in America. I am interested in the East Asia studies program. The language I want to study is Korean, but I don't have any idea what extracurriculars should I include in the Common App and here in college vine. I want them to be related to the area that I want to study and further develop in college. I'm currently taking a Korean course on Coursera to obtain a certificate that I would like to include in my college application process but besides that what activities should I include?

Here are a few activities that I would suggest:

- Write a blog or opinion pieces about topics in East Asian studies that you find interesting

- If you are part of a homeschool group, start an East Asian club for your peers. An example could be Asian Cooking Club

- Organize an East Asian cultural festival in your local community. This could be a good way to gain leadership experience and make a tangible impact.

You can also take a look at this CollegeVine blog post for over 900 other examples of extracurriculars. Hope this helps!
