AP classes
Answered

Hi. I live in a city in India where no school offers an AP class or an AP exam. We do not have the system of Honors/IB classes in India as well. Will it hurt my chances of getting into the most selective schools in the U.S.? I have a 1510 SAT score and pretty good ECs though.

Hi @VedPanse,

I believe it won't hurt your chances (Anyone is welcome to prove me otherwise) because you were limited by external circumstances rather than your own will. You should explain it in your application essay; because the college will not know if you don't. After understanding your situation, admissions officers should weigh in on it and possibly be kinder to your application. Also, your 1510 places you in the top 99 percent, you have a good chance of getting into one of the top 20 schools.

Furthermore, can't you register and attend one of India's AP Testing Centers? Such centers appear to be available to all students if their high school does not offer the desired AP Exam(s). I discovered the following specifics and testing locations from CollegeBoard: https://international.collegeboard.org/students/ap/taking-ap-india

I hope this information helps!
