What is an EC spike / recommendations for mine?

Hello!

I have a vague idea of what an EC spike is, but I'm still a little confused on what it truly means. Can I get some specifics? Also, are there any EC spike ideas for choir/theatre? I'm not sure if I want to major in those, but choir and theatre would be the most doable ECs and the ones I'm most passionate about. Also, if the spike requires or includes any national awards, I'm not sure if that is something I can do at my school, so include them with caution.

Thanks!! :)

A "spike" is an area that you excel or succeed in, want to persue in life, and all (or most) of your EC's are related to. For example, someone whose spike is in theatre/vocals could have starred in or direction shows at their high school, does local theater productions, is a glee or choir or chorus section leader, etc. This person would also be perusing theatre or vocal in college.

Involve yourself in everything related to your spike and excel in everyone one of them. Also, you don't need to do national awards through your school! You'd be surprised what a simple google search can do!

Spikes are specific subjects that you have lots of strong ecs in. For example, being on student council, debate team, choir, and mathletes is not a spike as it doesn't show focus in a particular spike.

But if you are in your school's musicals/plays, maybe participate in community theatre, be a counselor for a youth theatre camp, and do theatre competitions, this will show a 'spike' of committment and excellence in theatre. Good luck!
