If you take an AP exam are you able to count it as a course on your college application?
Answered

I am a current Sophomore who wants to take three AP Exam this next year, unfortunately my school doesn’t offer the courses I want to take the exam for, so I will have to self study. If I do well am I able to count them as AP Courses on my college application?

Thank you!

No, only "in-class" AP courses you take either at your school or online via through your online HS or through an accredited AP school become part of your official transcript.

Your AP test scores are only your AP test scores, not evidence that you mastered the material in the classroom or received an A grade for your effort. Of course you can report them in the test section of the application but not in the coursework section.

Taking the actual AP course versus taking the one time 2 hour+ test is vastly different. In class, you have lectures, home work, quizzes, tests, and in some APs final projects or papers.

Therefore colleges will place more weight on taking the class an getting an A in the Class than getting a 4 or 5 on the AP exam. I would guess that it's like 75%/25% for taking the class v. the exam only.

Hope that answers your question.
