Admissions Advice

Is coursera useful?
Answered

I'm considering taking a Coursera course in the field of biology or chemistry (subjects I would most likely major in). I'm wondering if this a useful way to show my interest in my major to colleges, or if admissions feel that Coursera has little value to applications. If I should take the course, should I pay for the certificate or are colleges fine if I don't have one?

I think that you should only take a Coursera course if your school does not offer any biology or chemistry classes. Taking classes at school is a stronger way to demonstrate your major interests. If you do take a Coursera course, colleges will be fine if you do not have a certificate, since they will take your word that you completed it. Hope this helps!
