Does anyone know anything about NSHSS?
Answered

Hi,

I received a letter from an organization called NSHSS a month ago. I've heard about NHS, but not NSHSS so I was wondering if this is a scam or not. It requires me to pay $75 to get scholarships and I'm kind of confused about the benefit of this organization since there are a lot of other sites that let me apply for scholarships for free. Does anyone know anything about this organization? If so, what's the benefit of this? Also, will it boost my chances of being accepted into colleges?

It is just organization promoting their business. It is what I would say a scam because you get nothing good out of it for $75. It will not help you or even hurt you if you put this under honor/awards section of colleges apps as it is membership you get just by paying for it and not earning it through merit/academic achievement. Plus thousands of people get this same email which makes it nothing special. So I would say don't waste your time on it.

Hello, I am a member of NSHSS myself, and I can confirm it's not a scam. It's a legitimate organization for academically advanced students, it allows you to apply for scholarships, find college advisors, gives you discounts for test preps, and offers academic tours and volunteer and internship opportunities. It can certainly help in the college application process by being part of a prestigious organization, and if you apply for a leadership position such as being an ambassador (which involves organizing local service opportunities and being involved in NSHSS events like conferences) it can help even more. You can also apply for a fee waiver if $75 is too much. In my opinion, you should join, it is beneficial!

NSHSS is not a scam. I am an NSHSS member and I would recommend joining. It's not just about scholarships. It provides other benefits like discounts on books, prep courses(like SAT), and opportunities like volunteering in the country and abroad. It also gives useful information through webinars.

One more thing, becoming an NSHSS member automatically admits you to NewU University(a 3-year Bachelors degree provider in Washington DC, 2 min from the White House) without any application fee, test score, or essay.

The organization also organizes campus tours. Recently, I got an invitation for a 5-day tour to these universities: Harvard University ∙ Massachusetts Institute of Technology ∙ Brown University ∙ Yale University ∙ Columbia University ∙ New York University ∙ Princeton University ∙ University of Pennsylvania ∙ Johns Hopkins University ∙ Georgetown University from NSHSS at a fee of $150 per person.
