I'm in 11th grade, just promoted. So roughly, I have 3 years to build my college profile (grade 11, 12 and 13 which are A levels). I'm much interested in community service so I'm hoping to do volunteer work in underprivileged schools, or for the environment like tree planting drives. Other than that, I'm not much into munning or debates as that doesn't grasp my interest. But I'm willing to stay dedicated to community service for 3 years. Other than this, I'm hoping to take part in writing clubs in A levels, for college magazine etc as I like to write too. If possible, I'll try to initiate fundraising programs too this year in school as I genuinely feel passionate about such causes. So basically, these are the only things which I'm passionate about. These are: community service, fundraising( own initiative)and writing. These are only 3 ecs so as only these align with my interests, are these enough for college? As I've read that we should not merely do something just for the cause of making college profiles, but out of passion. Anyone who got into a good school could maybe give some advice.
When it comes to building your college profile it is important that you try a few things to figure out what is important to you, and then put your effort and passion behind a few things. Colleges value leadership roles and dedication towards activities more than they do someone who does a bunch of different things but isn't super involved in any of them because they are trying to do too much. Those 3 ecs should be enough, but you should feel free to try a few new things along the way and maybe try and figure out other ways to incorporate your passions into your college profile, maybe as entering writing contests, organizing your own club for one of the causes you fundraise for, etc. Hope this helps! It was the advice given to me by someone who did this and got into their dream college (Pomona College) so I think it is fairly reliable advice.
