Hi, I'm from overseas and my school (which roughly follows the Cambridge IGCSE scoring system) does this thing called progress points. We have 4 progress points, which are basically 2 midterm exams and 2 end-of term exams. Which scores are factored into calculating GPA?
We also have something called fortnightlies, which are our predicted grades for exams, which are given to us every fortnight (hence the name). Are these considered into our GPA as well?
On our report card, we're only given As and Bs and so on, with As being the only exception. Does this mean that when calculating GPA in accordance with the IGCSE equivalents for grades, if we get a B we have to assume that it's referring to a general B instead of a B, which it could refer to?
Finally, is the GPA that is mostly discussed on these forums generally referring to the cumulative GPA or the junior/senior year GPA?
Thanks!
All of your graded assignments will count towards your GPA. Midterms and final exams would count, while fortnightlies (fun name!) would not because they are hypothetical grades.
As for IGCSE equivalents, you are right that a B represents a general B, e.g. 85/100. This GPA number, like the GPAs that most users on CollegeVine share, is a cumulative GPA starting from freshman year. Hope this helps!
