What are some good topics to write about in college essays? For me, it seems like I'm trying to sound different when, in reality, I'm exactly the same as everyone else. I have a very competitive transcript on one hand, but, on the other hand, I have only a couple extracurriculars; I don't have a particular experience that changed me. Anyway, I would love to hear y'all's thoughts or what you've decided to go with!
That’s what you can write about! Write about not having any life changing experiences and hoping attending university will give you those experiences.
I think even if you think you haven't "done" anything, just write about something simple! You could write about your views, or even better combine something you do with your values. I did this by connecting a movie I love (Rocky Horror) to how I find it important to accept everyone for who they are no matter what.
You don't have to have some huge mind-bending experience. You could easily talk about how you think the little moments in life make a big impact, like your favorite pet you had and the importance of companionship and having connections with other people!
Ultimately what I suggest: think of what makes you really happy, and how that could reflect your hopes, values, career, etc. Good luck picking a topic!
Colleges are looking for two things in your essay: 1) they want to see that you can write well, and 2) they want to get to know you as a person. That means that your essay should be both well-written and personal. Some good topics to write about include your passions, your values, or an experience that has shaped who you are. Be yourself)
