One of my top five colleges that I want to apply to is a state school. I've heard that it is a very easy school to get into if you are coming from out of state. The acceptance rate is 37% and I am worried that this may be true. Does anybody know what state schools are looking for when they look at applications?
What they are looking for varies. You can google the colleges common data set to see what information is important to them.
Same qualities as usual. I had a meeting with a college counselor, and she told me that (general application/resume aside) you really have to show how you would be a valuable edition to their school through your essays. Your resume, grades, gpa, and test scores have to meet their qualifications, but then after that your essays can either make or break you. The common app essay needs to set you apart as an individual, and then the supplementals should serve as that final push to admissions officers letting them know that you would be a better choice compared to any other competitive applicant. Be unique, entertaining, and show as much as yourself through your writing as possible. Please keep in mind that I am only a high school student and my college advisor has a reputation of being a bit all over the place, but I think she may have hit the nail on the head with this one.
