My school does not do AP classes or courses. How would this affect my application and how do I address it.
My case was similar to yours as I attended high school outside US. My school offered neither AP classes nor AP exams, so I self-studied and gave AP exams at another school. You can try to find out schools near you that offer AP exams.
Even if you can't find such a school, it won't negatively impact your applications because there are different criteria for international students.
Hope this helps.
As others have said, you will not be penalized in the admissions process because your school does not offer AP classes. Colleges care most about applicants taking on the most rigorous course load they can, so if your school only has, for example, honors classes, taking all honors will look good. Colleges will understand what offerings your school has because your guidance counselor will submit a school report to them.
Beyond taking the most rigorous classes you can, getting a high score on the SAT/ACT will further demonstrate high academic achievement. Hope this helps!
Hey!
So, to answer your question, you could probably write in your application somewhere that your school didn't offer AP classes. Schools also take into account how many AP classes were offered (It's even an option on Collegevine, under AP scores/classes). Since your school doesn't offer AP classes, I would recommend taking any kind of Honors or IB classes if it offers them. If not, then I would take online classes or try to earn a certification in your desired field or get job experience.
Hope this helps! Best of luck on your application!
