Hi
Im a rising junior! Last school year I talked to my guidance counselor about the admission process I wanted to get into as many school as possible and my main schools are UNC Chapel Hill and UF and Baylor University my GC told me that it will be hard to get into these school because I have the credentials to get in but so does everyone else.
I was wondering If there is any thing that I can do that will make me stand out on my resume I want to purse the medical career route
thank you for taking time to answers or even look
YOOO a fellow unc-hopeful, nice.
Since you're looking to do medical-type stuff, maybe start an initiative yourself! raise awareness about a medical topic that's common in high school, like STDs or something similar. Making an effort to better your community always makes you stand out <33
Your counselor is right—UNC Chapel Hill, UF and Baylor are competitive schools, but don't let that discourage you!
If your academic stats (GPA, standardized test scores, class rank, etc.) are in the typical range for these schools, it's time to focus on the "soft side" of your application: extracurriculars and essays. Since you are interested in medicine, you could shadow a doctor or volunteer with the Red Cross. Do some digging on what's available at your highschool and within your community. Find an activity you enjoy and really commit to it! Schools are looking for dedication and achievement in your ECs.
You'll also want to ensure your personal essay (and if needed, any supplements) is stellar! Essays can help an admissions officer decide between two academically similar students.
To keep this community safe and supportive:
Thank you!
