Hey @Swayam_Jain17,

Basically, a spike is your "talent" or specific focus toward one subject of your interest. I'll give you two people for an example. There's one student who is "well-rounded", meaning they have a good GPA, SAT, and stuff like that. But they do not show a particular interest in one field or one area. Now the other student has a spike, which would mean this student has a focus in, for example, psychology. All the books they have given relate to psychology, their internships are psychology-based, they've one psychology essay competitions. Basically, its something that you are very interested in and sets you apart from the population of students. Hope this helps!

Hello!

A spike is basically an activity or two that show deep passion about pretty much anything you love to do. These tend to be QUALITY extracurriculars. Because you enjoy doing it, you put a lot of time and effort into them and they normally stand out to college admissions as a Tier 1-2 activity.

For example, someone loves to cook. So for their spike, they can start a recipe blog and/or YouTube channel, or maybe even write a cookbook. This shows colleges that the student is going out of their comfort zone and is passionate and curious and shows growth.

By the way, it does not necessarily have to be related to your major, but it will help if it is as it shows interest in the major as well.

Best of luck!
