What is the extracurricular Tier of qualifying for the AIME?
Answered

I understand that qualifying for the USAMO has much more prestige, but I am a rising senior who has yet to participate in math competitions. Even if I reached the USAMO, I would not find out until after submitting college applications. This year, I will hopefully get to participate in local math competitions and take the AMC 12 via my school's Math League. Involvement in STEM-related extracurriculars would probably benefit my application because I intend to major in chemistry. However, how much would qualifying for the AIME benefit my application? I am trying to enter Math League into the Estimated Chancing Calculator. What is the Tier (4, 3, 2 etc.) of the extracurricular as well as the sub-type of Tier (c, b, a, etc.)?

Qualifying for the AIME would definitely give your application a boost. It would count as a Tier 2a non-art competition in CollegeVine. On the Common App, you should put your qualification under the Awards section. Winning a top-20 place in AIME would then be a Tier 1b award. Hope this helps!
