Is my personal statement topic cliche or is it unique enough?
Answered

I am planning to write about my experience visiting my cousins in my native country and noticing how community oriented they are. I plan to write about how I realize they are more selfless than me by using specific anecdotes. I then want the rest of the essay to be about my journey trying to become less self-oriented and more like my cousins in my native country(less selfish and more helpful to my community).

I'm just wondering if this seems like a cliche topic?

Hi, @ZZAK. I think that the narrative of admiring selflessness in others and embodying it yourself is a tad cliched. However, maybe you could discuss a more unique lesson that your cousins taught you and how it impacted you. Unfortunately, it is difficult to write essays concerning a relationship with others because the essay can easily become too focused on them and not speak enough to who you are. It is not impossible though. I wish you the best of luck with your essay!
