Rec letters
Answered

So I know it’s important that you get rec letters based on your major like if your business you want business rec letters but if your undecided does it matter who you get a ref letter from in terms of aligning with a major

Thanks for your question. Only if the college requests you to follow specific instructions with regards to curating a recommendation, should you feel the necessity to follow those.

Since your average college student changes majors 3 times during their undergraduate career, there is really no need to align your recommendations with your major.

What is most important is that you choose a recommender who can advocate for your personal character and attributes that makes you a compelling applicant.

If you take a hard science class and everyone is super competitive in that class, then you know that the teacher may have to write 10, 20 recommendations for your peers. So unless you know you are going to come out ahead of the pack, I would refrain from asking that teacher for a recommendation. Why? Because unless you are the best and most gracious student in the class, they will write nicer things about other students.

Sometimes having someone non-traditional is the best way to go with recommendations because they are genuine and memorable.

Good luck.
