i just retook the sat today (and i’m not feeling too confident that i improved), but first time around i got a 1390. i go to a public school that isn’t competitive and has an average 1000-1100 sat in the school profile. if i’m applying to a school with a 50th percentile sat of say a 1450-1500, do you think that i should submit? it’s significantly less than the 50th percentile but it’s significantly more than my school average, so i’m torn. thank you so much!!
If you are black, hispanic, indigenous, then I'd apply with a 1390 because marginalized groups do not score on the SAT as high. If you are white or asian, apply only if you are at least the 25% percentile band. So if a school's 50% range is 1450-1500, you want a 1450 min. Your HS average test score does matter if you come from a marginalized background or are low income, first gen, otherwise not so much.
if your score is less than the average 25th percentile applicant of a school, i'd say it's better to go test optional. i think in ur case, if ur shooting high, i'd consider not submitting since colleges don't look at your school average as much as their applicant class average, i think. take my advice w a grain of salt though, i'm not an ao :p
