Chicago public schools
Answered

Hello, I am a junior at CPS taking mostly all AP and dual credit course load this year. Ranked in top 3 every year so far and I wonder if me graduating from a CPS on the southside of Chicago will help or hinder my chances at some top level schools???? What do you think?

Going to a CPS will help you in your case. Your school offers a similar level of rigor to college prep schools, but it is a less competitive environment that allows you to have a class rank of 3. Because public schools give students less individualized support, your achievements will also be seen as more impressive than if you were at a private school.

One more thing to note is that colleges sometimes give a small boost to students from public schools. This is because most of the top applicants graduate from college prep schools and boarding schools, and colleges are looking to add educational/socio-economic diversity to their campuses. Hope this helps!
