Is AP Calculus AB recommended for business majors?
Answered

I'm a senior that's interested in accounting. I plan to apply to UPenn, CMU, UNC Chapel-Hill, and two other schools.

I'm currently taking Honors Calculus this semester and signed up for AP Calculus AB for the spring semester. In my state, one credit of US History is required to graduate, but APUSH is scheduled during the same block as AP Calculus, so AP Calculus was removed from my schedule.

Many sources suggest higher math classes for business majors. But I'm on the fence: I have 3 AP credits already, and will gain another 3 this spring semester. I volunteer for a non-profit organization and shadow a CPA once a week.

Should I drop an extracurricular and take AP Calculus (probably on my own time)?

Take AP Calculus only if time permits. U are well aligned in EC for a business major.

It depends on what extracurricular you want to drop. If the EC is beneficial to your goals and profile, then definitely don't drop it for a class. On the other hand, AP calculus is an extremely useful class. However, if you've already done AB then it should be better for you to not take it this year. If this is your first year of calc then your call. Try asking your counselor about other options in taking the class, and good luck! Hope I helped.
