I have a 4.1 , 1500 despite that most of the schools that are top 40 are reach schools or hard targets for me. Why should I bother applying to these schools?
The chancing simulator uses an unweighted GPA aka max is 4.0. Top schools are hard to predict via an algorithm. Use it as a guideline.
Even after putting 1600 and a perfect GPA into the chancing simulator, top 40 colleges will remain reaches or hard targets. This means that they're reaches or hard targets not only for you, but also for every other applicant in the world. Don't let that deter you from applying.
Depending on your passion and your wherewithal, you could apply ED, EA, or even simply RD to a couple of these top schools. These schools need a diverse class of people with different backgrounds, activities, passions, etc. You never know what resonates; you clearly hit the academic threshold to apply so choose a couple that you love and go for it!
Top schools will always be a reach/hard target for anyone, even the most perfect student. You need to keep in mind that the acceptance rate for my Ivy's is below 10%, and the 10% that apply are top students. Also, you listed your academic scores but never extracurriculars, which are another HUGE factor.
Hope I helped and good luck!!
Reach schools will always be reach as the admission process is holistic, not only with perfect scores will get you there, if not also other parts of the application, and any school with an acceptance rate under 30% will be reach for everyone, but it is always a good thing to try, even you are not sure about, just do you your best, and that’s all!
