AP courses/exams in a IB curriculum

I am a freshman at a competitive high school that offers IB curriculum. My plan is to graduate with the IB diploma. But I am considering taking AP physics 1 and AP stats as a self-study course in addition to my pre-IB courses ( and take the AP exams). I do plan to take help from a tutor for these subjects. Do you think this will show more rigor or am I better off spending more time on extracurriculars?

As someone who has taken a combo of IB and AP classes, I think you should take AP Physics and AP Stats freshman/sophomore year as long as you can handle the workload. You can always focus on extracurriculars during junior/senior year. I recommend joining clubs now, but spending more time and focus on the clubs you enjoy later on.

Good luck :)

As someone who did their junior year in IB whilst playing 3 sports and working, and is now doing their senior year with three AP's, I would advise that you should either double up on the exams and IB classes (EX: take IB Physics HL and also take the AP Physics test). Doing a combo (EX: IB physics hl, math hl, BM hl, and then randomly doing economics ap self study course) and not doubling up will kill any chance of possibly tending, let alone exceeding, at your extracurriculars.
