What is the minimum number of service hours required for college? And, what is to be expected, or what will make you look good?
I literally got into A&M with 0 service hours. I'm not advising you the same but I think if you have great academics and test scores with good ECs, they might not even need a lot of service hours.
There is no hourly standard. Since Texas A&M considers volunteering "important" it's most important to consider the quality of your community service vs. the number of hours you put into it. You can hold a city council seat as a student member and that reads more impressive than many typical volunteering jobs. Pick something that you are good at that has something to do with your intended purpose of going to college and your passions. Admissions officers are not easily fooled by people who pick jobs that just look good on paper.
Hi!
There really isn't a minimum number of service hours you need for a college but having a lot does help show you put effort in your community. If I were to give you a range, I'd say 50-200+, where you increasingly get better off with colleges as your number of service hours increases. However, it all depends if you are focusing a lot on service in your application. Hope this helps!
