is a 4/16 a good ranking? I moved schools for my senior year so I'm not exactly as high as I would have liked. Is top 25% percentile decent?
also, how do I describe certain activities on common app without seeming dry/inactive etc. Like how can I use different words than:
"taught" (for working as a tutor)
"provided academic support" / "collaborates with" (volunteering as a tutor lol)
"aided"
"participated in"
like im not sure how I should go about it? I always end up running out of character space in the activities section
Top 25% is certainly a decent ranking, though top schools prefer for applicants to be in the 10% of their class. You will still be able to get into these schools so long as all of the other components of your application are competitive.
The best way to make your activity descriptions stand out is to use words called "leadership words." If you look up that phrase, you will find articles that will give you some great suggestions. Following the examples of resume job descriptions will give you inspiration. Also, make sure to focus your activity descriptions on what you did and what impact you made - you do not need to explain the organization's mission, history, etc. unless it is very complicated or uncommon.
Hope this helps!
