How Can I get My gpa at a 4.0?

Hello!

My Name is Brooke and I am a Junior Currently. I was wondering how can I boost my Gpa to a 4.0.

Currently my weighed gpa is 3.78 and unweighted at a 3.5 ish. This year I am taking 5 ap's.I am ranked in my class 30/179 .My dream School Is Upenn. What grades would i need to achieve these two semesters in order to get that 4.0 and potentially get into Upenn

You will not be able to get a 4.0 in your UWGPA but will be able to get above a 4.00 in your Weighted GPA.

The highest UWGPA you can get is 3.714. I'll show you the work. (3.5)X4=14pts or your current UWGPA. You have 3 semesters left before you apply to college so if you get a 4.0 or all As all 3 semesters you will have (4.0)x3=12 more points. You will have 26 point/7 semesters which = 3.714

The highest WGPA you can get is 4.16. I'll show you the work. (3.78)X4=15.12pts or your current WGPA. You have 3 semesters left before you apply to college so if you get a 4.67 (which is based on a 5.0 scale taking 2/3 rds of your total class as APS and getting all As in your APs) or all As all 3 semesters you will have (4.67)x3=14 more points. You will have 29.12 point/7 semesters which = 4.16.

Only 6% of admits at UPenn have a UWGPA of 3.50-3.74 according to the most recent common data set. Furthermore, only 5% of admits are ranked between the top 11% and 25% and you are around the top 17%.

Unless you are a top recruited athlete or a child of a very important donor $$$, you should lower your expectations for applying to schools like UPenn. You would be a better fit academically at colleges like Bryn Mawr, Skidmore, Bennington, Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson, Mount Holyoke, NYU, Hamilton, Colgate, Vassar, Trinity, Wake Forest, Bates, U of Richmond.

Hi @SailorBrooke!

You won't be able to get your unweighted GPA to a 4.0. Even if you get perfect grades the rest of high school, the highest you will get is a 3.7/3.8.

But don't worry — upward trajectory is really important to colleges, so there's still a chance you can get into your dream schools. Showing consistent improvement will help you make up for earlier lapses, and it could also give you something to write about in your college essays. You might be able to get your weighted GPA past 4.0, but that number only matters insofar as it reflects the proportion of AP classes you've taken (which is already shown on your transcript).

To get a more holistic assessment of your chances at UPenn, I'd recommend trying our Chancing Engine (link in the sidebar). It'll take into account other important factors like your background and extracurriculars, so it can provide a much more accurate answer than I could give based on your grades alone.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

It would be best if you got straight A's. You could try taking dual-credit classes over the summer if your school offers that to bring up your GPA. Good SAT/ACT scores will also be helpful as long as any extracurriculars you are in.

It would depend on how many credits you have completed already, but probably 4 A's in the AP classes at least and straight A's in your other classes. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but with a 4.0 and a rank of 30/179, your chances of getting into U Penn are incredibly low. This being said, focusing on developing strong writing skills to nail those essays and study hard for the SAT. Good luck!!
