my school is offering a principal's advisory panel this year, and i'm not sure if i should join it or not. is it the kind of thing colleges look for?

If it's something you're interested in, go for it! I wouldn't recommend doing it solely for college (especially if you end up hating it), but it could be a good opportunity to explore a leadership role and make your voice heard :)

If this panel is a very prestigious opportunity that you have to be voted in or hand-picked and they do things that show evidence of measurable social impact, I would do it. How is this different from say Student Council or ASB then? What differentiates this panel from the elected leadership positions typical in HS?

im not entirely sure how you get in, but i know that they discuss and make desicions on the important school functions, say if we were to change the way my school's lunch waves worked. and im not totally sure what differs from this and student council.
