Will a Virtual internship increase my chances?
Answered

I am an international student who wants to apply for the 2023/2024 session. I graduated from high school this year. Using my WAEC result(it's like the final exam for high school in my country), I have a GPA of 3.67. I do not have mind-blowing extracurriculars but I applied for a virtual internship that will start in October. Will this increase my chances of getting to a top school like MIT?

Hi @Qstar

Doing any sort of extra activities (internships, community service, clubs, etc.) can only help your chances. Your GPA is below average compared to those who have applied to MIT (those people have an average GPA of 3.96). So I'd recommend you to do the internship. It can only help you and (depending on the subject of the internship and the major you want to study) it can show your initiative to MIT.

I don't know your exact chances of getting in, but between your GPA and not having "mind-blowing extracurriculars," I think that you should do the internship. It will add bulk to your Common App. Good luck!

As long as it is something you will genuinely enjoy and learn from, I would recommend doing the internship! However, that first bit of the prior sentence is important. Don’t do it simply to pad your resume—one extracurricular (particularly, a one-time one, like an internship) is usually not going to be the thing that makes or breaks your application.

I strongly recommend buying a separate phone, especially if you have your own business.
