I am a senior and have already submitted my college apps. (I submitted them before the quarter ended, so I have 'in progress' for my senior grades instead of an actual grade). I have a C in my AP chem class and im currently taking 2 other aps, a dual enrollment, and an honors class. Along with my classes, I have to work so Im finding it hard to squeeze in the extra tutoring time I need for chemistry.
Will it look bad if I drop my ap class and switch over to marine science/physical science instead? Later in the year im thinking of dual enrolling in anatomy instead. I just don't want this class to tank my GPA
Dropping the class would look better than having the C on your transcript. If you are able to do so, inform colleges about the change afterwards.
Even if you cannot drop the class, one C on your transcript is not the end of the world. If you get high grades in rigorous classes excluding AP Chem, and all of the other parts of your applicant profile are strong as well, you will still be able to get into top schools due to the holistic admissions process. The C will only look like an anomaly in that case. Hope this helps!
A C in AP looks really bad on a mid-year transcript. I would highly recommend you drop it and inform your colleges that you did so it won't come as a surprise when they compare your common app course list to your actual transcript.
Good luck.
