Activity section - how do I include Teaching assistant position at high school?
Answered

I am a teaching assistant at my high school for a business course. The teaching assistant position is considered an honor at my high school and is chosen on grades, demeanor, teacher nomination, etc.

I do earn a grade however it’s not clear on my transcript what the class entails or that I’m a teaching assistant.

I have it listed in the activities section of common app to better depict my role and responsibilities as TA.

Is this okay to list as an activity? I heard one college advisor say that anything for a grade should not be in activity section but if I don’t include it there, I’m not sure where else I would delineate it in common app.

I think that listing this position as an activity is the right move. The position involves doing work rather than submitting assignments for a grade, so it falls in the same category as an unpaid internship. The Activities Section is also ideal because you could explain your responsibilities in the activity description - the Honors section does not give you space to do so. Hope this helps!
