I'm starting my Junior year of high school in Washington State, and I'm generally a pretty good student (Top 5% Class Rank, 11 APs by senior year, 3.99UW/4.5W), and I am considering several schools that value STEM/Leadership (Stanford, MIT, U.S. Naval Academy).
For context, current extracurriculars include:
-Real Estate Internship (payed, summer job)
-Varsity Crew locally (15hrs/week, shows commitment)
-Hoping to become yearbook editor (applying soon)
-Camp Councilor/Volunteer for upcoming summer (sleep away, 1 month)
I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for additional extracurriculars/projects/competitions to demonstrate my proficiency in STEM/Writing/Leadership.
Do Note: Many school clubs aren't an option as rowing takes up after school time.
Thanks,
One suggestion i have is join a local First Robotics team or start your oen. First is a great program where students get to buikd, design, and program a robot to compete is regionals with an oppoortunity to advance to world championships. You get a hands on expierence with engineering and have access to millions of dollars in scholarships. Leading a first robotics team does require a huge time commotment, and would definately conflict with the rowing that you do, but if you really want to demonstrate leadership and expierence in stem, this a way to do it. Start a first robotics team does cost a lot of money as robots are expensive, so you have to reach out to sponsors. There could also be a team at another high school in your area that you could join. Here is more info on starting a First robotics team if your interested: https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc/start-a-team
