Physics not offered, what should I do
Answered

My high school, disappointingly, does not offer physics. I want to be an engineer, so getting into college without physics may present an issue. I moved over the summer, and at my old high school most juniors took physics, but here it is not offered at all. I could take it online through NCVPS, a public school system for North Carolina students that is entirely online, but this would be an extra course next year on top of my regular schoolwork and extracurriculars. For someone who specializes in math, and is merely decent in science, should I invest the time and effort into taking AP physics online next year? I am looking to get into some top colleges, and do not want to be at a disadvantage merely because of the curriculum at my high school

Hi there! Yes, you should look at some of the online program and take the class. Hopkins offers AP physics in the summer but I’m not sure about during the school year. Alternatively there are schools like Laurel Springs that are actually very good for supplemental online courses. My daughter took a BIo class through them and it wasn’t easy! The mere fact that you take the class will demonstrate your commitment to engineering. Good luck!!

Yes. You should either take AP Physics online or take an Intro to Physics as a college course either in person or online over the summer.

It's better to be over-prepared than under-prepared especially if you want to pursue a competitive STEM degree and a top university.

Some respondents will say you will not be held responsible for the lack of course rigor available at your HS but I disagree with that notion. Lifelong learners always find a way to acquire knowledge and requisite content and coursework regardless. In an age of connectivity, you will be able to show you have high school physics under your belt if you really want to.
