What are some "last minute" activities to improve college apps?
Answered

I don't literally mean last minute, however, as a Junior, it definitely feels like time is running out. I don't necessarily have time to build leadership roles in new clubs, start new extracurriculars to succeed at, join strongly academic clubs (since they often require a "build-up" from earlier years), or anything like that. Are there any suggestions for strong extracurriculars that I can add, or is it just too late?

Hi,

I would say some of the strongest "last-minute ECs" would be-

internships

shadowing

starting a club (not really recommended)

self-research work for your major/passion projects

If nothing is possible, I'd say focus on your academics, letters of recommendation, and your essays (where you can explain the lack of ECs or even highlight a deep passion for your major through ways outside your ECs!).

Best of luck!

Any summer program, or volunteering would be a good start, look into and apply for summer internships, or be a camp councilor. As for right now: Many school libraries have clubs that help run them that aren't that competitive, ask around if anyone in a successful career needs help on the weekends (as an unpaid/low payed internship). Enter a writing competition, make a website with a template, do something that shows passion (look up "passion project"). And finally, ASK YOUR TEACHERS, they know your local opportunities, and what has helped others get into college.

Hope this helps.
