What if I did an EC since childhood but had to stop in 9th grade due to moving?
Answered

Hi,

I shifted to the United States after completing my 9th grade in India, just before COVID struck. In India, I attended martial arts classes since gr 5 but had to quit after gr 9 only due to my moving. I had a very prominent senior role in that class, but I will checkbox the gr 9 box in Common App while mentioning I had attended the class for a very long time. The same is for my art class, which I attended since second grade.

Will colleges take into account the years before ninth grade I practiced these ECs?

Thank you.

Colleges typically don't pay much attention to extracurriculars before high school. Also, if you haven't done martial arts since ninth grade, I probably wouldn't even list it in the Activities section, especially if you have another, current activity (or one that you did during/up to 11th grade). However, if you still want to let colleges know that you did it or how it was meaningful to you, I would recommend writing about it in your CommonApp essay or a supplemental. If you can't find a place to discuss it there and you still really want to include it, you could add it to the "Additional Information" section.

Hope that helps!
