Supplement Essays- tones and connection with the rest of the application
Answered

Hi,

1. Is it ok to use different tones for different supplements? For example, one is leaning towards informal and passionate, while the other is formal and academically focused.

2. Is it ok to explain X in a previous supplement (or, if it is an EC, then in the Activities section of the Common App) and use it (without giving any context as it was mentioned previously) in a later supplement? For example, I mentioned my YouTube account in my activities list (what I do), but in my supplements, I did not re-explain what I wrote in my activities list. Rather, I explained how the skills I learned and the experience I got will help me at that university or one of its organisations.

Hi!

1. I believe it is totally okay to use different tones for different supplements, as distinct prompts may require diverse approaches; also, showing different sides of your personality may give the person reading them a broad insight into your ideas and beliefs. Just be careful to not let your essays be inconsistent with one another!

2. That's completely fine too! As a matter of fact, it is a great idea.

Good luck!
