I’m applied to Columbia ED and UChicago EA, both of which are due November 1st, which was last night. I was so relieved to finish my college applications, until the following morning where I realized that the common app and supplemental essays had to be submitted separately. I had only submitted the common app. After realizing this, I immediately submitted my supplementals, but I’m about 11 hours late from the deadline. Am I screwed?
Also, I don’t know if this is relevant, but I still got the confetti page after submitting my supplementals late. 😭
You should be in the clear. Colleges often do accept late essays and other materials from students, but they do not publicly admit that - if they did, it would encourage too many people to ignore the deadlines.
If you are an applicant they want to accept, it is unlikely that they will turn you down just because you submitted your supplemental essays a bit late. To be on the safe side, I also recommend emailing the Columbia and UChicago admissions offices.
Hope this helps!
I made the same exact mistake i emailed them and the common app say downloaded by college what should i expect
@ver2e I think you are okay because you got the main Common App completed and submitted by the deadline and only the supplements were 11 hours late. You are not screwed.
Nevertheless, I would end a quick email to the UChicago and Columbia Admissions office explaining that you misunderstood the instructions.
Good luck.
