Emory's Class of 2027 ED1 Acceptance Rate creeps slightly higher from 36.5% to 37.4%

Copied from Emory Presser:

"Some 903 students breathed a sigh of relief when they received emails Dec. 14 announcing they had earned Early Decision admission to Emory University’s undergraduate Class of 2027.

From Georgia to China, they cheered with excitement. Out of a pool of 2,414 Early Decision I applicants...."

From Last year's press release:

"The email was delivered Dec. 15 to 804 in-boxes scattered from Georgia to the West Coast — and beyond — with the news that students had been anticipating for months: they had earned Early Decision admission to Emory University’s undergraduate Class of 2026.

Out of a pool of 2,205 Early Decision I applicants, these students are the cornerstone of their class, ready to shape their dreams into reality and make the world a better place for themselves and others."

My takeaway is that there is a continued surge and attraction for high achieving HS students to focus on the Top 20 schools in America for whatever reason, clout, prestige, networking privileges, or to satisfy familial or social pressures. Emory is a fantastic school but 1 tier down from Ivys, Elites, and Top Liberal arts colleges. So I would think there is enough practical folk that would want to get into Emory early and not worry about having to apply to RD schools.

I think this is a problem for applicants who are not quite T20 school material. They still want to take their shot at other higher-ranked schools and are not willing to settle for an Emory early in the admissions season. For Emory this is still a net positive because demand went up like 10% for ED1 applications.

The downside for RD applicants is that Emory took an add'l 100 ED students to improve its yield. And that will mean RD rates are going to be lower this cycle compared to the last cycle.

I always thought Emory was a top 20 school or is basically that. The ED2 acceptance rate was 12% and I think RD will slip even further. Interesting to see

Emory as a lately is a T25 school now, sometimes they get as close to #22. I think their admissions process is way different than other schools and they are very kind to people who apply early. But RD like you say will be sub 10% in my opinion because there just aren't that many sets.

If I were applying I'd much rather go to Emory than Tulane and NorthEastern with lower acceptance rates but their quality of education is much lower than Emory I think.
