My situation in high school was kind of weird. I was homeschooled, so I spent a lot of time helping my brother out with schoolwork (he’s a grade below me) and helping my mom out around the house (she has some pretty severe vision problems).
I don’t know if I should list this stuff or not. I don’t feel like it impacted my day to day that much, but it still left a mark on me throughout high school.
Opinions on this?
You should definitely include it in your application. Schools want to know almost everything about you and that is a very huge information that would be missing if you don't include it. You said it yourself that it has left a mark on you, so it is significant in your application.
Hi @BeesKnees!
If you've spent a lot of time helping around in your house, you should include family responsibilities in your Common App. Even though you may feel it hasn't impacted your daily activities that much, it indeed has. Everyone has 24 hours a day; when you spend a minute doing Activity 1, you have less time for Activity 2. Putting family responsibilities in your application shows why you didn't give more time to other activities. Otherwise, there will be a void in your application where admissions officers will have no idea about what you were doing.
Hope this helps!
