Does this count as an extracurricular?
Answered

Hello! I am currently in a class at my school that allows me to go off campus and work at a pharmacy as a pharmacy technician. Since this is technically a class, I am unsure of whether to include it as an extracurricular or not.

Depending on the circumstances, it could count as a job or internship on your resume which is an extracurricular activity. Though you are working to meet a requirement in class, if you are getting paid and working enough hours to be a part-time worker (both inside and outside of class), then I'm pretty sure you can say it's your job rather than your course so long as your entire class is not at the pharmacy you go to. However, if you work for free and only within that class period (so for an hour each day), then you signed up for a hands-on and interactive class. That would not be an extracurricular activity.

I would say that it is a Dual Enrollment Course, which is essentially a class with out-of-school-hours activities

Hi @lrgdaman!

I think you could count this in the same way you would band or sports. The vocational work that you're doing probably wouldn't be obvious from your transcript, so I think it would be better to note it explicitly.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.
