Admissions Advice

23 with a GED
Answered

Hello all, I am preparing to take my GED in March 2023, and I am lost on how to do this admissions thing... I am an American and have been living abroad since I was 15. I have been homeschooled and haven't had a brick-and-mortar experience, so things like AP, SAT, and ACT are new to me. Will taking those tests help my likelihood of admission? I hope to start pre-med classes in the spring/fall of 2024, and my ultimate goal is to become an M.D.

thanks for your advice

AP classes will make you a more competitive applicant if you have the opportunity to take them through your homeschool program. If not, colleges will not penalize you for not taking a class that was not an option.

Taking the SAT or ACT will also benefit you. Both tests are on the same footing, so you can take either one. At test-optional schools, you only should submit a high test score (above the average score of accepted students at the college you are applying to). Not submitting a score will not harm your application.

Hope this helps!
