Admissions Advice

Hi! I just got a C+ in an AP class as my final grade, how big of an effect will it have on my admissions?
Answered

I'm a junior at one of the most competitive high schools in my state. I have gotten mostly A's but a few B's, and have roughly a 3.75 uw gpa. I just finished my first semester of junior year and recieved 4 A's, 1 B in honors math, and a C+ in an AP class. My extracurriculars mainly consist of competitive dance for 30 hours a week and working 14 hours over the weekend, with some volunteer hours and clubs here and there. I'm really worried that this C will affect my chances a lot, since I'm not a straight A student, nor have outstanding extracurriculars. Right now, I'm aiming for UCSD, UCSB, and UWASH but I'm worried that I am now very unlikely to get in.

Your one C will not have a large impact on your odds of admission, especially because you scored a C+ and have a decent UWGPA. If any extenuating circumstances caused your C, you can explain them in the Additional Information section to mitigate their impact. So long as you continue to earn mostly A's after this and work on strengthening the other parts of your application, you will be a competitive applicant.

Hope this helps!
