Do colleges look at weighted GPA and how do they compare it to others with different systems?
Answered

I've been looking at the stats of others and have seen people mention weighted GPA a lot but do college actually look at that? Especially with how different it is at different schools. For example I have a 3.62 unweighted and a 5.14 weighted. I take almost all honors classes. I've seen others with higher unweighted than me and the weighted at their school doesn't go past 5.0 which makes me wonder how colleges consider that if they look at weighted GPA as well.

Hey there @Marihi!

Colleges look at both weighted and unweighted GPAs to see how you're doing overall and evaluate your performance in higher level classes. They will also usually recalculate GPA on a scale that works for them, so don't worry about how your high school calculates GPA. I have heard that unweighted GPA is more important, but also that weighted GPA matters because it lets colleges know what kinds of honors and AP/IB classes you've taken, but I would ask a college counselor for more information.

Hope this helped!
